X Windows - Formally, the X Window System; also called X.A popular window system developed at MIT and used on some workstations.It is often used on UNIX systems and can be run with other major operating systems.With X, users can run applications on other computers in the network while viewing the output on their own screens.The X terminal with keyboard, mouse, and monitor is considered the server and the applications, which may run on the same computer or a different computer, are considered the clients.
