Laptop - A portable personal computer that is small enough to fit in a person's lap.and weighs less than eight pounds.Laptops usually have a flat screen and LCD display, and are powered by a rechargeable battery.They can be connected to a larger monitor or other peripherals when back at the office.

Leased Line - Refers to a phone line that is rented for exclusive 24-hour, 7 -days-a-week use from your location to another location. The highest speed data connections require a leased line.

Local Area Network (LAN) - A group of computers joined with cables and software, allowing hard disks and other devices to be shared among many users. A computer network limited to an immediate area, usually the same building or just a floor of a building.

License Agreement - A legal statement which indicates the terms under which a user may make use of a software product.The license to use does not transfer ownership.In many cases the license is worded so that installation or use of the product indicates agreement to the terms stated.

Link - A hypertext connection that can take you to another document or another part of the same document. On the World Wide Web, links appear either as underlined text or as pictures/icons. To follow a link, you double click on the underlined text or on the corresponding icon.

ListServer - An electronic mailing list typically used by a broad range of discussion groups. When you subscribe to a listserv, you will receive periodic email messages about the topic you have requested.

Live Chat - Online typed conversation in real time.

Local System - The computer system the user is working on.The remote system is any other system in the network with which the local computer can communicate.

Login - Noun or a verb. Noun: the account name used to gain access to a computer system. (Not a Password) Verb: the act of entering into a computer system, e.g. To use your e-mail, you must login to your ISP.

Lurking - The act of reading through maillists and newsgroups without posting any messages. Considered good netiquette to get the feel of the topic before adding your own two cents.
